Temple University Developmental Science Lab Study Participation

Participate in a lab experiment and wear a cap that can read brain waves while doing fun tasks!

The study consists of a parent and child (6-8 years old) visiting our the lab - parents fill out surveys in the same room as the child, while the child plays games while wearing an EEG cap.

We will be recording your child’s brain activity using a procedure called EEG. This is a non-invasive, painless, and safe way for us to explore how your child’s brain is responding to the actions that he or she is doing and seeing. It simply requires your child to wear a special cap on their head - the sensors in the cap must be filled with a hypoallergenic conductive gel (similar gel to what a doctor would use for an ultrasound) to help amplify the signals your child's brain is giving off. After the study is over, the gel will easily wash out of your child's hair.

It takes about 20 minutes to set up and explain everything, 30 minutes for the games, then we give the child a break with toys and a snack, and finally ask them to play on an Ipad for another 20 minutes. Visits typically last 2 hours, but we ask that you allocate 2 & a half hours just in case. You will receive a $50 VISA gift card for your participation. We will also pay for your parking if you decide to drive.
