Streaming | Lyrids Meteor Shower 2021 - April 21 at 9pm Pacific from Lowell Observatory

Every year in late April, the Earth passes through the debris left by Comet Thatcher, and this creates the Lyrid meteor shower. Join Lowell Observatory at 9 pm AZ/PT on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, for a live stream of the Lyrids, hosted by Research Assistant Megan Gialluca. We’ll use the All-Sky Camera at the Lowell Discovery Telescope to hunt for meteors together. After that, you’ll be ready to find more on your own, when the Lyrid meteor shower peaks in the hours before dawn.

PEEPS® in the Village - Peddler’s Village

This spring, Peddler’s Village will present a family-oriented “PEEPS® show”—called PEEPS® in the Village—from Monday, March 22 through Saturday, April 17. Housed in a spacious indoor area in the Village Courtyard, the colorful display will include more than 70 creations of wall art, dioramas, and sculpture, all prominently featuring the popular Pennsylvania-made bunnies, chicks, and other candies.

Mature at Night Hike - Elmwood Park Zoo

What kind of critters come awake after dark? Join educators for a nighttime investigation into the world of nocturnal invertebrates as we celebrate National Moth Week! This citizen science program is held worldwide during the last full week of July, and celebrates the beauty, life cycles, and habitats of moths. We will take an up close look at these often overlooked, but incredibly important, animals and do a survey of nocturnal insects on our undeveloped zoo property! Registration is required.

Naturepalooza: A Family Earth Day Celebration - The Schuylkill Center

Celebrate Earth Day at our 10th annual signature family-friendly festival, with a new COVID-safe twist. From the colorful autumn leaves to the fresh snow of winter to the budding flowers of spring and summer, discover the beauty and wonder along our trails in every season through this FREE weekly self-guided program. Pick up a nature exploration kit at our Visitor Center and then hit the trails with your family to complete the activities inside. For the months of January and February, past explorer kit themes will be repeated (with the exception of a new Valentine’s Day themed kit on February 13). Two different themed kits will be available each week. Please see below for a schedule of themes. Explorer kits can be picked up anytime between 10:00 am–12:00 pm on a first-come, first-served basis. All ages welcome. No registration required. Masks are required when picking up your kit.

Free Entrance Days in the National Parks!

Come experience the national parks! On five days in 2021, all National Park Service sites that charge an entrance fee will offer free admission to everyone. Mark your calendar for these entrance fee–free dates in 2021: ***PLEASE CHECK DIRECTLY WITH THE PARK BEFORE HEADING OUT!! Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state and local public health authorities, park operations continue to adapt to changing conditions while maintaining public access, particularly outdoor spaces. Though the park buildings you know and love may be closed, outdoor spaces remain a place to explore and have fun with the whole family.
