Join Wyck and Cliveden for a day of family fun celebrating the 200th anniversary of General Lafayette's return to Germantown on July 20, 2025!
Follow in Lafayette's own footsteps and start your afternoon with a meet and greet and refreshments at Cliveden (6401 Germantown Avenue) between 12 pm and 2 pm.
Follow the General down to Wyck (6026 Germantown Avenue) for more conversation and entertainment between 2 pm and 4 pm. This program is free.

The American Friends of Lafayette: The American Friends of Lafayette is an organization aware of the ideals of this great French visionary leader, the inspirational quality of his remarkable career, his contributions to our own struggle for liberty, and his ceaseless efforts to forge an eternal bond of friendship between the United States and France. The goal of The American Friends of Lafayette is to foster and promote this traditional friendship by way of continual research into the history that began with the American War for Independence and includes any documents and discoveries past and present that shed more light on the life of the Marquis.
Cliveden of the National Trust: Built as a country house for attorney Benjamin Chew, Cliveden was completed in 1767 and was home to seven generations of the Chew family. Cliveden has long been famous as the site of the American Revolutionary War Battle of Germantown in 1777, as well as for its Georgian architecture. New research is unearthing a more complicated history at Cliveden, which involves layers of significance, including the lives of those who were enslaved by and in service to the Chew family. This information broadens the meaning of Cliveden as a preserved historic place, exploring themes and stories of American identity and freedom. Traces of the history of the Cliveden property and its occupants can be found throughout the five-and-a-half-acre woody landscape.
Wyck Historic House, Garden, & Farm: Wyck is a National Historic Landmark house, garden, and farm in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia that served as the ancestral home to one Philadelphia family for nine generations (1690-1973). Here, traditional Quaker culture blended with a passion for innovation. The people who lived and worked at Wyck expressed these values through their commitment to education, horticulture, natural history, and preservation. Today, the Wyck Association connects this family and its rich history to our community through programs that focus on history, horticulture, and urban agriculture, using the past as inspiration for the present. Our 2.5-acre, centuries-old site plays an essential role in the life of our 21st-century urban neighborhood, using buildings, landscape, and collections to provide educational, cultural, and nutritional resources for our neighbors and visitors.
