Humans throughout history and across cultures have worn jewelry and other adornments as part of sacred rituals, ways to enhance beauty, expressions of social status, and sources of divine protection. This guided tour focuses particularly on the religious uses of decorative objects worn by people in a variety of cultures including ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome; the Middle Ages; and jewelry worn by family members who once called Glencairn home. Attendees will be invited to reflect on their own personal adornments and any special meanings they may hold.
