"George Washington and the General's Dog"

Hear the story about how George Washington went from a young boy in Virginia who loved animals to be the General who led his men through the battles of the American Revolution. Find out what he named his favorite dog and horse and how they accompanied him into battle.

In the fall of 1777, General Washington and his troops encamped at Pennypacker Mills and planned the Battle of Germantown there. They marched into Philadelphia and fought against the British and lost. As they retreated back to their old campground at Pennypacker Mills, they noticed something! Come to the Mills to discover more about this important capture. You’ll also learn quite a bit more about the character of General Washington too.

Stay afterward for a themed craft on the mansion porch. The Pennypacker mansion is also open for free guided tours so plan to come early or stay afterward and learn about Pennsylvania Governor Samuel Pennypacker. This program is for children of all ages. The book we will be reading is for younger readers.

Pennypacker Mills is operated by the Montgomery County Division of Parks, Trails & Historic Sites. Open year-round. Hours: Tuesday through Saturday: 10 am to 4 pm; Sunday: 1 to 4 pm. Closed Mondays and County holidays.
